This is a great piece of equipment. Drum carders are extensively used by fiber artists to card fibers and colors. Stauch drum carders are the most versatile machines available.  Carder comeS with their famous and unique "Slicker Licker" on the drum. Elimates the need to manually brush the fiber and helps you get more on the carder. The "405" Finest is the flagship model. This top of the line model is unique and comes complete with all available features including the Brush Attachment. Having a chain as the drive mechanism provides constant positive non-slipping acton while carding and is far superior to belt drives. The wood frame is ash with a warm honey-oak finish. It has a 7 in. diameter x 7 3/4 in. wide working drum and a 2 in. diameter x 8 in. wide licker drum producing a batt approximately 7 in. wide and 22 in. long. . This unit is equipped with the #05 (128 psi) card cloth(for ALL FIBERS especially the very fine varieties, with care, can be used with Merino,m Llama, Alpaca Cashmere blend, dog hair, & other exotics. . Also equipped with the "Sliver Licker"SL. The 6" high frame permits a larger sprocket on the small drum. This makes the 5:1 ratio between the drums which allows more carding action per revolution. A family owned business; we have operated at this location since 1978. After a few years of researching and visiting other farms, we added Alpacas to the therapeutic animals and other animals on our farm. Family members had for many years knitted and crocheted appreciating fine and unusual yarns. Now, as fiber animal owners, we began to acquire knowledge, acquaintances, interest in having our own fiber made ready for use in our creations and for others that appreciated (especially the spinners and felters). Our frustrations seemed to be shared with other fiber animal owners in that if you did find a source to get your own fiber back it was so far away that you felt you were kind of sending your precious animal’s fiber into the big unknown, hoping that someday in the far, far future you might get it back. We embarked on our quest to find the path that would work for us and other alpaca and other fiber animal owners. We learned that the raw fiber that was precious to us as animal owners also was appreciated by fiber artists in its carded form (batts and roving). We then learned how we could prepare our own fiber for that use. This led us to the Straucher Fiber Equipment Line.
