Strawberry Shortcake Banana Twirl Berrykin Prototype

This auction is for a mint in the box Banana Twirl Berrykin Prototype.  

This piece is a combination of an engineering pilot and a first shot.  Engineering pilots or EP's as they are sometimes called are the very last stage of pre-production before an item goes into mass production.  They are used to check to see if a toy will fit in a box properly and how it looks.  More information about what an EP is can be found Here.

First Shots are generally the last stage of a toy before it goes into mass production.  In this case since all the dolls are the same it would be specific to the clothes of the pet/buddy.  Additional information about first shots can be seen Here.

The specific differences on this piece are both drastic and obvious. 

1) The box is white with no printing and just a square window.  The production toy would have a more detailed are around the window per the details of each doll.

2) The doll and buddy are reversed on this piece.  The production toy would have the doll on the left side as it got better exposure through the window.  This is something they would specifically work out in the EP prototype stage.

3) The doll does not have any details on her dress.  When the piece was finished and put into production they would add the banana bunches to the skirt.  This is a typical characteristic of the First Shot prototype stage.

4) You will also notice that this doll does not have the correct leggings and the older green and white ones were used.  This is likely because the new leggings were either not finished or perhaps had not even been considered at this point.

As far as I am aware this piece never had a buddy with it.  There may be other differences to this piece, but I don't have a production one to compare it to.  

The box is in nice shape, the bottom was never taped.  The top had tape but it has been cut.  The window is yellow and has a few minor dings that aren't very noticeable.  There are a few stains on the box and a tiny tear to the top.  The box is nice and white with little to no other damage. 

Even with this minor wear this piece displays beautifully and is extremely rare.
