Item Description
An original page from a sketch book created by Stuart Sutcliffe during his time studying under the tutelage of Eduardo Paolozzi in Hamburg, Germany dated October 1961. The sketch book was originally sold through Bonhams Auctioneers, Knightsbridge, London on 29th July 2003 in their Stuart Sutcliffe Archive Auction. The page measures 20cm x 14cm (8 inches x 5.5 inches) and is page 5 of 55 from the original book. Comes with a letter of authenticity from Tracks depicting the original cover of the sketch book and detailing the lot no etc from its purchase at Bonhams Auction House. Condition is excellent. Eduardo Paolozzi described Stuart in John Willett's 1967 book 'Art In The City' - "He was a very perceptive and sensitive person and restless. There is that sort of marvellously desperate thing about the whole Liverpool business now. I always felt there was a desperate thing about Stuart in his life...I was afraid of it. He had so much energy and was so inventive. The feeling of potential splashed out from him. He has the rich kind of sensibility and arrogance to succeed."
