This magnificent stone axe is the result of excellent prehistoric workmanship.
Very nice shaped, wonderful patina, beautiful colours and complete intact.
This axe was found in found in Tabelbala - Algeria and is dating back to the Paleolithic, Aucheulean cultures.
This stunning axe is in excellent condition,

Tabelbala is an oasis between Béchar and Tindouf in southwestern Algeria.
It consists mainly of two ksars, Ksar Sidi Zekri (Kora in Korandje) and Ksar Cheraïa (Ifrenio), as well as Sidi Makhlouf (Yami), and a more recent colonial-era town known simply as le Village.
Its current population is some 8000, it has its own language, Korandje.

The Acheulean Tradition is an Old World Lower and Middle Paleolithic culture, dated from 1.4 million years ago to 100,000 years ago.
Characterized by a stone tool assemblage dominated by handaxes, the Acheulean tradition originated in Sub-saharan Africa, such as at the Olduvai Gorge.

This axe is numbered by the archaeologist with the number “AF0061A”, (original finding number).

Condition: Excellent.

Origin: Tabelbala – Algeria.

Date: 700.000 – 100.000 BC.

Height: 12 cm – 4.8 inches.

Out of a collection of a Belgian Archaeologist.
This item was collectect in situ by the archaeologist himself in the early 20th century!
