you are buying the rare collector box seen on first 5 pictures: Scarce vintage tribal ceremonial wedding offerings traditional hand woven box with lid (from the mid 20th century) from East Sumatra, hand beaded with tiny beads, into a beautiful geometric pattern with elegant and intricate motifs. The form or inside of the basket-box is made of hand woven lontar palm on which all the tiny beads have been sewn with threads into a spider web of tight designs, plus there is a border of nassa shells, local seed beads on the lid & beaded fringes adorn the bottom of this precious box which took months to complete. This collectable is used exclusively during weddings, as a gift giving ceremonial tradition: it is given to the bride so she can store valuables, trinkets and jewelry within, during her married life. This kind of gift giving takes place among prominent families: Such valuables take more than 4 months to create, since they are entirely handcrafted & hand beaded, tiny bead by tiny bead (2mm each at best), into a beautiful mosaic looking pattern. Size is 6,5 x 6,5 x 5,25"
Super value! I have seen a similar box on the internet for well over $500.00.
We normally retail it for 375.00 from our store. This is a special.
8th photo is of a palace in Sumatra, where we collected this box. We also show other boxes available and beaded objects that we collected for many years in Sumatra and Borneo, hard to locate today.
Our prices are very low as we sell mostly wholesale and we go straight to the source to find these treasures, so you are getting the advantage of that saving as well as the advantage of the wholesale price without having to purchase multiples for a little while longer while we are making room.
