Sunfire
True MkII
Auction Consists of :
Sunfire True Mk II Subwoofer
During his college years, a young, but extremely gifted physics student started tinkering with audio circuits in his spare time. His love for music and the ability to reproduce it as realistically as possible drove the student to think out-of-the-box, therefore leading him to design truly distinctive amplifier circuits. By the time this young man received his Masters degree he developed the worlds first high wattage solid state amplifier, a goal that the large audio component manufacturers of the day could not achieve. Word of mouth grew quickly throughout the worlds audiophile community, the so-called earthquake amp became a hot commodity even before production began. In 1970, the exceptionally talented audio designer started his first company and would go on to change the audio industry forever. That man was Bob Carver.
Phase Linear, Carver, and his current company Sunfire were extremely prosperous under the leadership of Bob Carver. The components he produced under each name were, and still are, ground-breaking in design and performance.
Bob Carver differs from any other audio designer in that he prides himself in introducing new technology and furthering the sonic realism threshold with each product he produces. In 1970, during his years at Phase Linear, he introduced the worlds first solid state amplifier capable of producing 350 watts per channel. During his reign at Carver he introduced Sonic Holography, Magnetic Field power supplies, Asymmetrical Charge-Coupled FM detector, t-mods, and many other important innovations. Today with Sunfire he is continuing his ways, with his revolutionary tracking downconverter amplifier.
While most audio companies are continually trying to reinvent-the-wheel Bob Carver courageously treads new paths in audio technology. His components of today and days gone by are only growing in popularity as audiophiles discover their superior sonic performance.
The Sunfire True subwoofer was another instant classic by Bob Carver when released in 1996. A year later Bob Carver improved the driver and doubled the power output to 2,700 watts, giving it the MkII designation. Any high end manufacturer would be well-pleased with a subwoofer of any dimension capable of delivering the earth shattering bass, yet with Bob Carver the norm is never enough. It has to be innovative and groundbreaking, and many feel Carver out did himself with the True MkII.
With an original selling price of $1,495.00 the True MkII was, per sq inch, the most expensive subwoofer on the market, yet measured by dB output, wattage, and all around musicality it was by far the best value too. This pint size box delivers an incredible level of gut wrenching bass, hearing and seeing the True MkII in action for the first time is a bit illusionary. You just cant believe that much bass is coming from something so small. It was a demo room favorite; the typical subwoofer line-up always started with the Sunfire True and ended with one of the massive 18 washer sized boxes. Watching the sales clerk convince the buyer the cabling wasnt mixed up was always fun. Despite the illusionary mystique of the True subwoofer it was, and still is, an amazing performing sub that represents the lower frequency range of music and movies with authority and finesse. Its true magic is its ability to render the subtle low-sonic details with life and energy, making obvious even minute differences in the pitches of deep bass notes. Its tightness, speed, and musicality allow it to keep up with the finest quality audiophile speakers, blending the lows with the highs seamlessly. Some of the many features and functions of The True MkII include;
2,600 Watt Amp with Patented Tracking Downconverter Power Supply
