Super ART DECO GERMAN BAUHAUS SPRITZDEKOR JUG CARSTENS?
PLEASE NOTE!
I am away on holiday from Friday 18th July until Friday 1st August, so I will be unable to package or post any auctions finishing during that period until I get back, although I will try and respond to emails. If the delay is unacceptable or you require urgent delivery on any items, please do not bid. Thanks!
This fantastic art deco ceramic jug was made in Germany in the art deco era of the 1930s. Several firms were producing this style of jug at that time, but I think the most likely contender for this one is Carstens of Tonnieshof. The decoration is air-brushed or sprayed onto the white background in a process called spritzdekor, and this style of geometric abstract decor is now becoming very collectable. You can see other examples of spritzdekor pieces by Carstens on this enthusiast's interesting website. This jug has vertical blue bands bordering pairs of wavy green lines, with the same bright apple green edging the handle and rim and a crisp white background. The jug has an interesting tapering shape, with three prominent ridges breaking up the outline, and a sharply peaked spout.
The jug measures 19.5 cm/7.75" high, and about 15 cm/6" from handle to spout. It weighs 530 gms/1lb 3oz unwrapped, and I estimate the final packaged weight will be around 1100 gms. It is marked with Foreign (meaning it was made for export from Germany) and the impressed number 24. It is in very good condition for its age, but does have two very fine and short stable hairlines either side of the spout. These are hardly noticeable and do not affect the piece unduly. There are a couple of tiny base rim slivers from the manufacturing process, but other than this the jug is in fine form with no crazing and no loss to the colour, and it displays beautifully. It would make a great addition to a collection and would look superb in an art deco setting. It is on offer now at a low starting price with no reserve.
Please ask any questions, and good luck with the bidding!
Please complete the Checkout procedure to ensure that I have your full shipping details.
Paypal is preferred with no extra charge, especially from International customers, but I will also accept personal cheques, postal orders, bankers cheques or drafts, or for those who prefer to collect in person, cash in £.
Payment can ONLY be accepted in GBP pounds sterling.
Please submit payment within 7 days from the close of the auction.
For International customers, please ask me before bidding for any special considerations when shipping abroad.
The buyer is responsible for paying all packaging and posting costs.
General Information:
There will normally be a few days delay from the receipt of payment to shipping your parcel, as cheques take time to clear, and Paypal takes about 5 working days to arrive in my bank account, and for International parcels in particular, there can be cash flow issues!
I have limited mobility and can normally only post out about once a week in any case, but if you require your item urgently, please ask and I will do my best to ensure your parcel gets special treatment!
I pack professionally and with great care and attention to detail to ensure the safe shipping of your parcel. I buy in my packaging materials new, and also recycle where possible, and I do allow a few pence in the posting costs towards the packaging materials and time.
I cannot be held responsible for damage to items once they have left me. In the very unlikely event of an item arriving damaged, it is the responsibility of the customer to make a claim with the Royal Mail, and I will be glad to help by supplying claim forms and the certificate of posting.
Where practical, I am always happy to combine items in one parcel. Please ask for a quote.
The Domestic (UK only) figures include insurance up to the value of £36. For items selling at over £36, the parcel must be sent by Special Delivery to be fully covered by insurance.
I always email buyers to notify them when their package has been posted.
International Customers:
The International prices below are based on 2 rates: European countries, or USA, Australia, Asia and anywhere else in the world.
I will normally ship by Airmail Small Packets to Europe, and by Airmail Small Packets or Surface Mail Small Packets to everywhere else. The buyer must please appreciate that Surface Mail can take up to 8 week delivery time, but is usually less.
The prices quoted do not include compensation (which I have found to be relatively worthless for International parcels containing antiques and breakables in any case, as claims are unlikely to be met). However I will also quote for Signed For shipping if asked, which does in theory offer compensation.
The only sure way of insuring your International parcels is by using Parcelforce, which usually costs many times the Royal Mail rate. (I suggest you trust my packing skills, of which I am proud!)
I will happily combine items in one package if practical, but any package weighing over 2kg is stupidly expensive to ship abroad, and 2 parcels may be cheaper.
If you want to get in touch, please use ebay's 'Ask Seller A Question'. Thank you.
I always try and answer emails and messages promptly, and will be happy to discuss your personal requirements and make adjustments where practicable.

Return policy not specified. Read item description for any reference to return policy.
Returns are accepted ONLY if the item is substantially misrepresented. All the items I offer are antiques or used and old, and will inevitably display some signs of wear and tear.
