This is a great quality, hard-to-find bundle for Disaster prep / Emergency / Survival kits, camping equipment repairs, practice materials for Medical or Veterinary students, or animal medical kits.
The needles are surgical stainless steel, and unlike many other suture kits, these needles are reusable. Just sterilize them in boiling water, rethread, and they're ready for use again. The larger needles can even be resharpened since they are a heavy duty needle. Potentially life saving features during disasters and survival scenarios when supplies are limited.
Both sizes will work with either size of silk sutures provided in the bundle.
The larger needles and thicker silk (2-0) can be used to repair backpacks, tents, clothes, or for larger wounds. The smaller ones and thinner silk (3-0) can be used for tight spaces, buttons, or small stitches for less scarring.
Each package is double sealed, unopened, marked sterile, in a clear package.
The 2-0 sutures are non-absorbable, black, braided, silk, surgical sutures, by Ethicon, type SA85, about 30" (75cm) long each. They come 10 strands to a pack, and are UNEXPIRED stock. Expiration date is 07/11, as shown on the back of the package in the picture below.
The 3-0 sutures are non-absorbable, black, braided, silk, surgical sutures, by Ethicon, type SA85, about 24" (60cm) long each. They come 13 strands to a pack, and are UNEXPIRED stock. Expiration date is 01/12, as shown on the back of the package in the picture below.
You are bidding/buying for a special bundle consisting of:
1 package of two (2) small French Eye suture needles,
1 package of two (2) large Mayo 1/2 Taper suture needles,
three (3) packages of 2-0 silk sutures (thick) containing 10 sutures per package, and
three (3) packages of 3-0 silk sutures (thin) containing 13 sutures per package.
That's a total of four (4) needles in two sizes and
69 STERILE, UNEXPIRED sutures of two thicknesses!
You get ALL 8 packages shown in the picture, as described above. One of each of the suture packs in the picture are turned over to show the expiration date. You WILL get three of each suture pack.
These things are STRONG!!!! I can break a 3-0 silk by hand with some effort, but had to stop when trying to break the 2-0 before it cut ME open! Luckily, I happen to have needles and sutures for just such an event, but didn't want to go through that much trouble just to prove a point...
These are being sold as "not for human use" since the NEEDLES are expired stock!
Note that the sutures are NOT expired, they are current, sterile, UNEXPIRED stock!!!
Note: Sutures and needles didn't used to come with an expiration date on them, and the newer ones are listed as expires on "event" such as breaking the package seal, but these needles have expiration dates.
I have yet to figure out how a sealed needle expires...
