Offered here is a tapestry quality, circa 3rd quarter 20th century, sweet little Navaho weaving that measures 20” x 13” or 1 foot 8 inches long by 1 foot 1 inch wide. It is attributed to the Crystal Trading Post area and is in excellent condition. It was woven by a master weaver on a primitive upright loom of all Native hand shorn, hand carded and extremely fine handspun quality Merino sheep wool, both warp & weft. The design of this extremely finely woven textile is a classic 3 panel serape layout. Each panel has combination diamond and chevron bar motifs on the rusty brown field color. The panels are separated by fine line 1” stripes. The compound end stripes are done in lemon yellow and fine line dark brown and tan. What a sweet little tapestry quality, reminiscent of the pre 1880 blanket weight weavings. No Reserve.
We obtained this vintage Native American textile here in New Mexico just to offer to you here on eBay. It has a tapestry quality weft count averaging 72 per inch and a tapestry quality warp count of 17 per inch. The selvage cords are 100% original and excellent condition. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft selvages are 2-spiral cords. All four corners are tight, original and in excellent condition. The tassels are all four original and in excellent condition. No bleed, no holes, no odors, no moth nibbles, no fade and no stains. There is one tiny reweave repair measuring 3/16” x 3/8”. It has never been cleaned before, is clean now & comes from a non-smoking home. Both sides are even in color and shown in photos below. Colors are very good in this piece of old American Indian art and they are: natural white and aniline or vegetal colors of light tan, lemon yellow, dark brown and a medium rusty brown referred to as mummy brown on the dye chart. Complete with lazy lines, this nice example of near antique Native Americana is ready to display in your own hacienda or just tuck away in your own private blanket & rug collection. (1062)
