THE CHEMISTRY OF PLASTICS MOLECULAR MODEL SET

The basic raw materials for plastic are petroleum and/or natural gas. These fossil fuels are sometimes combined with other

elements, such as oxygen or chlorine, to make different types of plastic such as soft drink bottles, grocery bags, and cups. 

The Chemistry of Plastics Molecular Model Set allows students to construct the repeating unit for each of six plastics.   The

Plastic Identification Coding System can be used to identify the plastic items with recycle numbers 1-6.  Students can

investigate the physical properties of the plastic items, and draw conclusions about the relationship of the molecular

structure to the properties and recycling of each plastic.
