This is a very old, fairly large size tobacco label, 13" x 7" - It's the type of label that was used on wooden cases of bulk tobacco in the 19th century. The label has a very colorful & detailed lithograph of a young man lying on the grass and platying a flute, while a young lady holding a fishing pole lies next to him. There is a large cat siting behind the young man, and a number of sheep can be seen in the distance. The label reads "THE ENCHANTER. Manufactured By Watson & McGill. Petersburg, Virginia, U.S.A." On the bottom edge of the label, in very small print, it also reads "Litho. By A. Hoen & Co. Richmond, Va. Registered In The U.S. Patent Office As A Trade Mark Mar. 9th, 1876." The label dates from the 1870s, and it is in mint condition! No creases, no soiling, no rips or tears, etc. Buyer pays $2.90 shipping... NOTE - I'm listing 7 different old labels on eBay tonight. Please check out my other auctions! |
