Grading Standards
All Records Visually Graded
Sealed (SS)
Album is still covered by original cellophane wrapping to the degree that record could not have been removed and played. Price or other tags may be attached to the cellophane. The jacket itself may have cutout marks, holes or sawcuts; if so, the designation (CO) will be added.
Near Mint (NM)
Jacket: Opened but in "new" condition. No cutout marks.
Record: No surface marks and retains original luster.
Excellent (EX)
Jacket: Slight wear and / or creasing.
Record: Shows signs of having been played, but any marks are very minor.
Very Good (VG)
Jacket: Shows signs of normal wear and tear without any major defects.
Record: Noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches, but sound quality not likely deteriorated excessively. Records with equal or higher overall condition but with a scratch likely to affect sound quality receive this grade with a minus sign (VG-).
Good (G)
Jacket: Shows signs of normal wear and tear and is reasonably attractive, but has a major defect such as a seam split, noticeable writing on cover, water damage, etc.
Record: More marks and light scratches than VG, and sound quality is likely to be affected, but considered still playable.
Poor (P)
Jacket: Shows more wear and tear than above grades and has multiple major defects.
Record: Very likely to have poor sound quality or be unplayable due to wear, scratches or warp.
