The Solutions Molecular Model Set (Dissolving Salt)

This magnetic model set demonstrates the dissolution of salt in water.  Sodium and chloride ions are magnetically attracted

to the water molecules and separated from the crystal.  Eighteen magnets allow 1 chloride ion and 1 sodium ion to

dissolve (or dissociate) from the crystal.   This set also includes models for building hydrocarbons and alcohols.  Students

can make comparisons of the structure and solubility of hydrocarbons, alcohols, and salts.  This versatile model set can also

be used to study the physical properties of water such as surface tension and the structure of ice crystals.

The Solutions Kit Contents: 
  1 sodium chloride salt crystals with 36 atoms
  6 magnetic water molecules with 3 magnets per molecule

16 black carbon atoms

38 white hydrogen atoms

  1 red oxygen atom with an embedded magnet

58 gray links for single bonds
