"THE VERMONT STORY - A History of the People of the Green Mountain State 1749-1949", (1st Edition 1949), by Earle Newton, foreword by Allan Nevins, introduction by Dorothy Canfield Fisher, published by The Vermont Hisorical Society.

This hardback book, with its original dust jacket is in acceptable condition.  The dust jacket, however, is tattered and had been taped in places, with some missing pieces.  There's a plate of a former owner on the inside front cover.  The inside covers have some light yellowing along the edges.  There's a color picture taped on the inside back cover and a small picture of a fish on the reverse side.  The book is 8.5" by 10.75" with 282 pages, color & black/white photographs, illustrations, maps and is indexed.

Per the preface, the history of this rugged little state has a memorable individuality.  In the era of the Anglo American Wars with the French, this wilderness country between the two disputants was left almost untracked.  When Canada was conquered, it became a tempting pioneer area adn waves of settlement poured in.  It took nearly a generation to establish their independence as a new state.

  2. Redskins to Redcoats
  3. New England Frontier
  4. Yankee versus Yorker
