Tall hardback 11-1/2" tall x 8-1/2" wide. Nicely bound Volume XVIII of the annual publications of the Pennsylvania German Society in Birdsboro, PA. A Book About Pennsylvania German Decorated Hand Towels by Ellen J. Gehret. Published in 1985. Lovely white buckram boards with red lettering and illustration on cover and spine. Book is in pristine condition - Fine. Dust jacket is in Very good+ condition. These long narrow towels of white, homespun linen were gaily decorated with colorful embroidery and drawn-thread panels by adolescent girls as pastime and pleasure. This folk art preveailed between 1820 and 1850 in Pennsylvania Dutch country. Over 600 photos and drawings, many in color. Many instructions included, too. Decorated endpapers of cross-stitch embroidery pattern. Not ex-library. Proceeds benefit Lancaster PA Public Library.
