Red boards with author's initials blindstamped on cover. Bright gilt spine stamping. Binding is tight, spine is square. Minor shelf wear to board edges, top fore corners are lightly bumped. Head and foot of spine are slightly bent. Red topstain to textblock. Fore edges of textblock are untrimmed. Internally bright, tight and unmarked.
The dustjacket is slightly age-tanned. The top edge is creased and lightly chipped. The top fore corner of the front panel has a 1/4" loss. There is a 1/2" closed tear above and into the "R" of "Three" on the top edge of the front panel. The head and foot of the spine show minimal wear. There is a 1/2" closed tear at the bottom fore corner of the back panel. Now in a protective, archival mylar cover.
This volume contains "Career in C Major", "The Embezzler" and "Double Indemnity". Jacket art is by E. McKnight Kauffer. Included is a flyleaf from The Book League Review dated September 1944 advertising the book with synopses of the stories and a brief biography of Cain.
