Now you can use the power-feed in your metal lathe to take virtually all the work out of producing precision notches in tubing up to 2 1/2" in diameter. The special vise we provide clamps to compound rest on your metal lathe. The tubing is held in the vise, while the vertical height adjustment lets you align the tubing perfectly with hole saw.
Chuck up a hole saw with a diameter of 2 1/2 " or less. As the hole saw spins, the lathe's power feed advances the tube against the teeth of the hole saw. Just stand back and watch it work. Use a squirt can with automatic transmission fluid as a coolant. Feed rate is controlled by your lathe. Bevels are achieved by setting the angle of your compound rest.
Torchmate tube notching package includes vertically adjustable vise, two arbors, and five bi-metal high speed steel hole saws in sizes of 1", 1 1/4", 1 1/2" 1 3/4", and 2". Other sizes in almost any diameter are available. Two centering drill bits are included in case you want to use the hole saws for regular work. The vise fits lathes from 8" to 12" swing, with tool posts up to 1 3/8".
Cut angles are infinitely variable from 90 - 45 degrees. Fit is absolutely perfect, and cut smoothness exceeds any thing on the market due to the unprecedented use of a power feed.
Solids can be cut just like butter, as well. The piece on the left side of the photo is 1.5" cold roll steel bar. This is not possible with any other kind of tubing notcher.
By using various kinds of mill cutters, flats, grooves and keyways can easily be cut to machine tool tolerances. This is not possible with any other kind of tubing notcher.
