TRENDY Vintage Newspaper Print Roses Barkcloth Fabric

Even I was at one time not particularly fond of the metallic gold flecked fabrics of the mid 50's. I bought them over the years because they were cheaper at estate sales and garage sales....but I wasn't going nuts for them. Its wasn't until the last few years that I actually started using them in my own designs. They are fabulously period....a textile time capsule truly, protected for so many years. A barkcloth that represents a trend of design of the 50's that was feminine yet modern showing more changing, daring times in design....whoda thunk to add gold flecks to a fabric. Not everyone caught on, mostly more progressive people who embraced non tradition opted for the era of modernism.
There are always things that speak to me in my fabrics, I try to photograph them as I see them so I can relay my love and excitement for what I live and breath. In this panel I see a wonderful newspaper print with pinks and gold flecks as an after thought, one that made such a beautiful statement. The details of the design, the roses even the stems fresh cut, all in black speaks volume of the style the designer of this fabric had.....bold! I have these as draperies, but I am selling them in panel sizes to gear towards designers who are following the current urban market trends of bags and pillows made from gold flecks, indicative of a more younger more 20 something age bracket. However ladies do not be dismayed, these fabrics also have the ability to make you look more youthful too, and of course more progressive :) A trend of the 50's being recycled by a "green" conscious generation! I washed it and its perfect, not an ounce of wear. It is a drapery panel that I am selling a a fabric remnant, but with a little work it could easily be a drapery panel again.
