Hardback, around five inches by 7.5 tall (circa 123 mm x190 mm if you prefer), is bound in its publisher's original pictorial boards [see scans, above].

Provenance: through inside rear board's discrete department store label originally supplied by A W Gamage, with which Goldston had a personal connection [see note further below].

Fourth edition published by George Routledge & Sons, London and E. P. Dutton, New York, undated, but circa 1918. No ownership inscriptions or permanent markings to the text. Although interior condition is overall better than good, book displays minor signs of use or age -- such as occasional foxing / age spots to some pages -- consistent with a volume of this vintage. All viii preliminary pages + 249 pp are complete and otherwise correct.

¶ Goldston was an accomplished magician who made his debut at age 17 as Carl Devo. By the time he was 20, he had become a solo magician and professional dealer—as manager of the "Conjuring, Theatrical, & Entertainment Departments" at Gamage's Department Store in London. Goldston also founded The Magicians' Club, acting as club treasurer alongside its president Harry Houdini. ¶
