What the Brass & Woodwind Repair Manual is & isn’t
The manual is an old publication dating back to the 30’s, the text is very informative but the photographs are of low quality as you would expect from the period, any adverts you see on eBay for this manual with well defined colour photographs can be misleading, as there are no colour pictures in the manual, see the pic in my ad for an example of the actual pictures in the manual.
This manual could be considered an alternative to the famous Eric D. Brand Woodwind & Brass Repair Manual which every Woodwind & Brass repairman should already have, but that publication is hard to come by and very expensive. The text in this manual in just as informative* as the Eric D. Brand Manual, and gives a fascinating insight into brass & woodwind instruments, as there is precious little information or books on the subject.
And although I would not advise the novice with no repair experience to just use this manual to completely overhaul their expensive instruments, it certainly gave me enough information to fix a leaky tenor sax some time back, and also gave me a better understanding of the working & construction of my saxes.
This book is not simply a scan, it’s fully text searchable, and bookmarked for easy navigation.
*The Eric B. Brand manual was written around the same time, and woodwind and brass instruments haven’t changed much in the last 50 years, the Eric D. Brand manual however uses diagrams rather than photographs.
The manual is copyrighted and not sold for resale
