My
Nikon Digital or 35mm SLR has a built in flash
so why do I need another?
To
get greater range
Using
film rated at ISO 100 with a typical 28-80mm
f3.5-5.6 zoom. The built in flash units
of Nikon SLR’s are on average effective
to only about 13 feet, and that's only
when your zoom lens is at its fastest (f3.5)
and its widest-angle setting (28mm).
When
you want to zoom in on the action, towards
the telephoto end of your zoom range where
your lens is the slowest at f5.6, you'll
find that the built in flash does exactly
opposite of what you want. Its range is
reduced to about 10 feet, and sometimes
even less!
It’s even more
annoying if you
have a 70-300mm f4-5.6 or a similar
telephoto zoom lens. What is the sense of
having the magnifying capability of 300mm
but your camera’s flash is only
effective to about 10 feet? When you
want to use your zoom’s telephoto
capability that you paid for, but also
require the built in flash, your pictures come
out dark or, even worse, not at all!!
Compared to your built-in flash, with
the zoom head of the Cobra TTL set at the
tele position, you can shoot over 4X’s
further away with improved color, more
even lighting and added depth to your pictures.
Outdoors,
at night using the cameras built in
flash alone. (Distance to the fence
about 20 ft.). The result is a poorly
lit picture with muddy colors and little
detail.

dramatically improve.
To
reduce or totally eliminate "red-eye"
Even using the red-eye
reduction feature of your Nikon
(because the built-in flash is
too close to the lens) the flash
reflects off of your subjects retinas
directly back into the lens and
often results in pictures with “red-eye”.
The height advantage alone of the
Cobra 740AFN greatly reduces or
eliminates this "red-eye"
causing retina flash bounce back.
This can be totally eliminated by
utilizing the bounce/swivel feature
of the flash head to "bounce" the
light off of a ceiling or wall, for
professional looking results.

To
get professional looking bounce flash
results
Direct on-camera flash is not
the best lighting for portraits, because
it casts an unattractive shadow behind
the subject, provides little modeling
of the face, is harsh and produces
red-eye. Utilizing the bounce/swivel
feature of the Cobra740AFN flash, you can soften the light
by bouncing it off a nearby white
wall or ceiling or from another white
surface, such as a bounce card, sheet
of poster board or an umbrella reflector.
This type of lighting is more attractive
as it eliminates harsh shadows and
the flat look of direct on-camera
flash.

necessary to use your Nikon's time
wasting red-eye reduction feature
which in order to work, delays each
shot about a second before your
shutter finally fires. Now you
can capture all of the action and
shoot with flash up to 1.5 frames
per second!
To
enhance auto focusing capability
Your camera’s built-in AF-Assist Illuminator
is only effective to about 10
feet beyond which you have to
resort to slower manual focusing
that's especially inconvenient
in low light situations. The Cobra 740AFN incorporates a High Power AF-Assist Illuminator that
extends your Nikon’s autofocusing
capabilities even in very low
light situations.
Why
can't I just use any flash on my Nikon SLR?
Ordinary
flash units with a standard hot shoe might
mount and fire, but they can not take
advantage of the TTL flash metering and
other automated flash capabilities of
your Nikon SLR. These highly advanced
and automated Nikon flash features are
fully utilized by the Cobra 740AFN
and make it easy to get professional looking
flash pictures all of the time.
Even
with all of its advantages, as it is designed
with Nikon dedicated circuitry, the Cobra
740AFN
is as easy to use as your built-in
flash. When its single control, a simple
on-off switch turned on and your camera
set in auto/ program mode, everything
is done seamlessly and automatically.
Automatically the flash sync shutter speed
is set, the aperture is set, the flash
ready light in viewfinder will illuminate
and highly accurate TTL (Through- The-
Lens) flash exposure control will precisely
expose every flash shot.
An
additional feature of the Cobra 740AFN
is an exposure verification Auto Check
Light on the back of the flash. To
verify that your subject is within the
range of the flash and/or that the proper
bounce angle is being used, this Auto
Check Light will illuminate in green after
every successful shot. When it fails to
light, it means that the subject might
be underexposed and you should either
move closer or change the bounce angle.

Can
I use the Cobra 740AFN with telephoto or wide-angle
lenses?
You
sure can! Unlike your camera's built
in flash, the flash head can “ZOOM” to
adjust the flash coverage to match
the view of the lens focal length being
used. Especially important for telephoto
shots, in tele position, the head concentrates
the flash output and provides more
even illumination to a greater distance.
With super-wide-angle lenses, the head
can be positioned to bounce the light
off of a wall or ceiling; an effective
and easy way to provide very broad
and even wide angle coverage.

batteries?
