I BELIEVE ONE DAY COLLECTORS WILL REALIZE HOW UNIQUE THE EARLY 1980'S VIDEO RELEASE ITEMS ARE AND THEY WILL BE HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER. FROM ABOUT 1979 TO 1984 ORIGINAL MOVIE POSTERS WERE PRIMARILY USED IN VIDEO STORES. THE FINAL DECISION ON VIDEO STORE RENTAL LAW WASN'T MADE UNTIL 1984. HOWEVER, BY THEN THE COURT AND THE STUDIOS SEEN THE INDUSTRY GROW OUT OF CONTROL WHILE STILL IN COURT. THEY WERE ALREADY PRODUCING THE VIDEOS AND JOINING IN THE BUSINESS IN A BIG WAY WHILE STILL IN COURT FIGHTING THE LEGALITY OF THE BUSINESS. Now Sony owns everything :-) The Supreme Court's decision in the case of Sony v. Universal City Studios, involving the home use of video recorders and the federal copyright law, determined that the former did not infringe on the latter as long as the copied material was not used for profit. By the end of 1983 there were eight million video recorders in use in the U.S.; that number would soar as the legality of home recording seemed settled. Nonetheless, the studios lobbied Congress for a law that would attach a royalty or surcharge to the sale of VCRs and blank tapes. THE FIRST FEW YEARS THE STUDIOS WERE SENDING OUT POSTERS WHICH WERE THE SAME AS USED IN THE THEATERS BUT WITH A LITTLE VIDEO SNIPE. RARE ROLLED!!! ONES LIKE THIS HAD THERE OWN ART DIFFERENT FROM THE THEATER VERSION AND HARDER TO FIND I came upon a collection of video store posters about 15 years ago from the early and mid 80's, they were both original posters and video posters sent to a Tower Records. I find them historically interesting. This one is 23 years old and I am sure that a lot of collectors seen this movie for the first time on video :-) There's a natural disaster in the heartland of America. It's called the Cleveland family.An oddball family on a Kansas farm are trapped in their farmhouse by an impending storm. The patriarch of the clan is a retired soda pop tycoon. He is currently dating a children's TV evangelist. Also living at the farm is his layabout daughter and her precocious 8 year old daughter, his would-be artist son, the son's fiancée, and the black maid.
