Tyrus Raymond Cobb, Champion Batsman, 1911. “Ty” Cobb, one of the greatest ball players of all time is still a young man, having passed his 25th birthday in December, 1911. His first experience in organized ball was with the Augusta team in 1904, when he was not yet 18. He did not at first shine as a professional, and was farmed to Anniston, where he batted so hard he was recalled, and in 1905 hit .326 for Augusta. Detroit then bought him, but in the fall he only batted .240 for them in 41 games. Next year he got into the charmed .300 circle with an average of .320, and has since batted as follows: 1907--.350, 1908--.324, 1909--.377, 1910--.385, 1911--.420. In 1911 he scored 147 runs in 146 games, made 248 hits, 47 doubles, 24 triples, 8 home runs, and stole 83 bases, all together the most remarkable work ever done by a player in a full season. He is so very fast on the bases that he sometimes seems reckless, but the records show that he reaches the objective base safely more often than not.

In spite of a combative personality, Cobb is recognized as one of baseball’s greatest players. He was the first player elected to the Hall of Fame winning a phenomenal 222 votes out of a possible 226. Though he never won a world series, Cobb batted a .366 hit record and hit over 4000 hits in his career. This poster will be ideal for an office or home bar.

The coloring on this poster has a very antique look. It will look great framed or mounted on a trophy board.
