A Room Without A Rug Looks Empty & Unfinished

Woollen pile on cotton foundation, handknotted. This is a Tabriz carpet from NW Persia. A survey of carpet weaving centres of Persia must give a pride of place to Tabriz, not because the best carpets are woven there, for better carpets might be produced in other localities, but because of the long, honourable association of the city with this craft, and especially because the revival of the industry itself in the second half of the 19th century, was due in a large measure to the skill, the enterprise and vision of the men of Tabriz. This carpet has a central medallion resting on an ivory ground. The main field has been decorated with floral and figural motifs. It is a very unusual design, with dancing girls, horses, etc. It is a decorative carpet which is a perfect companion for rooms with traditional furnishing and decor.

ESTIMATE: US$5500 - US$6500.     ( all goods will be shipped after the clearance of the payment).     AGE: 1940`s/50`s.      COLOURS: Ivory, antique gold, light blue, navy blue, deep red, pale green, light brown.      CONDITION: Good, with some slight wear on the border, not very noticeable.      MEASUREMENTS:4.20 x 3.16m (13`9" x 10`4" ft).       Stock No;HB8516-1-153(for office use only).

TABRIZ

Tabriz is situated in northwestern Iran, in the province of Azerbaijan, and is the capital of a very important carpet-weaving region. The town is over 1000 years old and even centuries ago it was famous as a cultural centre.

The Tabriz carpets are of very good quality, finely knotted and made of strong lustrous wool. There are old carpets in private homes, used for years, which are still excellent condition, and the colours have kept their brightness.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the finest carpet had a silk pile. These are rare pieces and are among the most beautiful examples of Persian carpets.

The usual Tabriz design is a medallion surrounded by flowers tendrils, however, some carpets have an all over designs. The warp and the weft of Tabriz carpets are of cotton and they come in most sizes.

There is nothing more guaranteed to add a touch of warmth and luxury to your home than an oriental carpet.

These treasures from the East can transform your home or your office in an instant, bringing it drama, colour and ambience of cosiness, regardless of whether you live in a spacious loft, a flat, a normal house or a country mansion. Each carpet is hand-woven and unique, and with their subtle colours and durability they will quickly become your most loved and treasured family heirloom.

In your office, an oriental carpet is impressive yet welcoming. At a stroke you can put your own personal stamp on your work place or corporate environment, which will not go, unnoticed by your colleagues or clients.
