| Julia Taft watched over her brothers who were playmates of President Lincoln's sons Willie and Tad. At the tender age of 16 she had unfettered access to the Lincoln White House and to President and Mrs. Lincoln and their family. Her reminiscences of that time, prior to Willie's death, and during the beginnings of the Civil War, were captured in this book shortly before her own death in 1933. Though short stories had been published prior to this work, this volume is the first complete telling of her experience. It has been signed by her. The book is in very good condition, the jacket is gone but the end pieces of the jacket remain. There are 8 illustrations. President Lincoln 1861 from a photograph given by him to Julia. Willie Lincoln from a photograph given by him to Julia. Mrs. Lincoln with Willie and Tad from a photograph in the collection of Frederick H. Meserve, New York. Julia Taft at 16, Washington 1861. Bud and Holly Taft, playmates to the Lincoln boys. Program of the "Circus" in the White House, printed by Willie Lincoln. Tad Lincoln from the photograph given by him to Julia, 1861. The deathbed of Lincoln, from the genuine official copy. It is of interest to note that it was Miss Taft's older half brother who was the first physician to reach President Lincoln after he was shot and he remained with the President through the night until his death the next morning. There is the beginnings of seperation at the title page. Please view the photos and ask any questions you might have before bidding.
