This is a very fine and quite attractive example of this Roman Provincial Bronze coin from the Kingdom of Bosporus. This bronze coin of Agrippina II and Claudius is one that you will want for your collection. It has a most attractive dark reddish brown patina and was struck in high relief. The coin is 25 millimeters wide and weighs 6.5 grams. How did this choice Roman coin survive in such excellent condition? The Roman imperial ae as was reissued under Augustus during the coin reform starting in 23 BC. Generally produced in copper and weighing ususally between 9 and 10 grams although as years went on they became smaller. Its denomination made it worth a fraction of the sestertius. two and one half asses equaled one sestertius.
