An Oral History of the Fall of South Vietnam

“A gripping oral history of a debacle we’re still learning from—history at its most enlightening.”—Oliver Stone
‘These pages alternately bristle, bleed, seethe and explode. This document may become one of the most valuable of its kind.”—Houston Chronicle
“This book gives us one of the clearest pictures yet of what the Vietnam War and its loss were all about.”—Chicago Tribune
In this stunning history, soldiers and civilians, both American and Vietnamese, tell what it was like in the spring of 1975 as Hanoi carried out its final, successful offensive against the Republic of Vietnam. Generals, ambassadors, pilots, Marines, politicians, doctors, seamen, flight attendants, journalists, children, and even Vietcong soldiers describe the growing demoralization, panic, and chaos as the collapse gained momentum. American survivors recall with raw emotions the escape of the last airliner out of Danang, the chilling helicopter airlift from the U.S. embassy roof in Saigon, and the painful abandonment of their South Vietnamese allies. Former boat people relate their hair-raising encounters with Thai pirates; and in a new postscript, an American government official describes the resettlement of 130,000 Vietnamese refugees in America over the ensuing months. Touching, heroic, and unforgettable, these dramatic narratives illuminate the closing act of one of the central events of modern history.
Larry Engelmann lives in San Jose, California. He is the author of three books, and his stories have appeared in prominent magazines nationwide. He is currently writing a book on a group of women intelligence officers in the Peoples Liberation Army of China.

Book Grading Guidelines:
New (N: Just like it sounds. A brand new, unused copy in perfect condition.
As-New (AN): An apparently unread copy in perfect condition. Dust jacket is intact, pages are clean and are not marred by notes or folds of any kind. Suitable for presenting as a gift.
Fine (F): A book that approaches As New, but without the crispness. There can be no visible defects, the book is clean and bright, and it's dust jacket is without rips or stains.
Very Good (VG): A copy that has been read, but remains in excellent condition. Pages are intact and are not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
Good (G): A copy that has been read, but remains in clean condition. It may show wear and perhaps small tears. Defects will be noted.
Poor (P): A readable copy. All pages are intact, and the cover is intact (the dust jacket may be missing). Pages can include considerable notes-- in pen or highlighter-- but the notes cannot obscure the text. Often this is an out-of-print or hard-to-find book.
Ex-Library (ex-Lib): A book that once belonged to a public or institutional library. Usually these books show some markings on the spine, title and copyright pages, as well as on the end pages.
Note: We try to grade as accurately as possible; however, please understand that grading used books is a very subjective process.
