Telefunken Opus 2004 tube stereo with external speakers

This beautiful radio is being relisted due to the previous high bidder not being aware of how much the cost of shipping this radio could be.  I had recieved much interest from Asia including Hong Kong and Taiwan.  I live in the eastern United States and I only plan on shipping this radio by UPS or Fedex for international shipments.  Being air freight carriers only, they do not offer any shipping method slower than 1 week.  Depending on the final size and weight of this radio with extra speakers and spare parts the shipping will cost about $400 to $600 to Hong Kong or Taiwan.  This final package will weigh about 55-60 pounds and be about 40 inches by 20 by 18 inches or so.  The buyer is to pay the actual shipping costs, I will only pay for the packaging materials.  I will gladly ship this internationally but I MUST make the winning bidder aware to PLAN FOR THIS COST.  I will not be packaging this until the auction ends and the winning bidder tells me exactly how they want this radio packed.  The package size can change if the buyer wants the vacuum tubes installed in the radio removed, labeled, and individually wrapped, etc.  Or if the external speakers are to ship in a separate box, etc.  I also need to make it clear that PayPal is my prefered method of payment.

Telefunken Opus 2004 radio with matching Telefunken external speakers, original paperwork, some spare tubes, and auxilliary input accessories.  This radio was purchased new, by my father, a US Navy Electrician in 1961 while overseas.  It has been owned and cared for by him since new and is in very good to excellent condition considering its age.  It is time to find a new loving home for this desirable classic.  The radio has been well maintained and recently gone through by him.  The directable ferrite antenna got new rubber straps attaching it to its shaft, and some of the piano key switches were cleaned and adjusted.  All the radio tuners are in working condition, as are the phonograph input and the auxilliary tape deck input.  I used this recently with my CD player, an MP3 player, and a record player and it worked beautifully both with and without the included matching original Telefunken speakers.  A RCA stereo phono-plug to DIN plug adapter is included for use with the phonograph or tape/auxillliary input.  Two extra DIN plugs are included if you wish to make more input adapters.  Also included is a balance potentiometer module I made by following the included original schematics instructions.  The original balance module is not included.  This module plugs in the back and is for use with the phonograph input for balance adjustment.  The original 2 wire AC cord was replaced many years ago, and the radio was properly rewired to an industrial grade 3 prong, grounded, AC cord.  The original paperwork includes the Opus 2004 users manual, schematic, brochure of other Telefunken models, and a list of the world city station names and bands.

2 pcs, EF89, 6DA6

2 pcs, ECC83, 12AX7

1 pc, EL84, 6BQ5

1 pc, ECC85, 6AQ8 labeled "bad" on the box

1 pc, EM84, 6FG6 labeled "weak" on the box.  This is the "magic eye" "cathode ray" type phosphorescent tuning strength readout tube.  It still works but was replaced with a new, stronger tube a few years ago.

also included are some indicator bulbs, a pack of fuses, and a length of plug-in antenna.

As said earlier, the radio is in very good to excellent condition both functionally and cosmetically.  The wood of the main radio has its original finish and looks good.  It does have slight "crazing" that can be seen when up very close and in certain light.  A picture shows this.  From a few feet away one can hardly tell its there.  The external speakers also have their original finish and are in nice shape, they have no crazing.  There are a few very slight scratches and tiny dings but they do not detract from the almost "time capsule" like condition this radio is in.

If you are in the market for one of Telefunkens most desirable radios, the OPUS 2004, you will be hard pressed to find another as nice anytime soon.

The radio has been tested to be fully functional, but with a radio 48 years old, I need to SPECIFY that it must be sold in AS-IS condition.

I will ship internationally.   Buyer pays shipping and insurance.  The main unit weighs about 40 pounds and will be properly double-boxed and packed.  The external speakers should probably ship in a second package, however I will leave some of these terms as negotiable with the buyer.

The FM band only tunes up to 100, not 108 like modern US broadcasts

I have set what I think to be a reasonable reserve price.
