A reserve price is the minimum price the seller will accept. This price is hidden from bidders. To win, a bidder must have the highest bid and have met or exceeded the reserve price.
You are bidding on an extremely rare "first state"
Beatles mono "Butcher Cover" for the album "Yesterday And Today." This LP was sent to a radio
station as a promo in 1966 (there is no promo or "radio station copy"
designation anywhere on the cover or LP) and sat on the shelf until it was given
to me by the program director in 1984. He said, "you're the biggest
Beatles fan I know. This needs a good home." I've given it a
good home for the last 25 years and
it breaks my heart to part with it. Long story short...my cat needs
surgery.
As you can see, the cover itself is not in mint condition. It was
customary for most radio stations to write on LP and 45 sleeves back in the day
and the G1156 numerical designation was this LPs # assigned by the
station. Also, you can see on the back where someone wrote "muzik
power" which must have been the radio station positioning statement at
some point (I'm guessing the 60's). As the photos show you, there is some
splitting on the cover as well as the inner sleeve. At some point,
someone at the radio station put some "magic tape" along part of the
top and bottom seam. I have not tried
to remove this tape though it looks like it would be easy to do. This
cover and LP has been safely stored in a glass frame since I received it in
1984 and was was just removed today for the first time in 25 years for photos.
The vinyl itself is in good condition. There are a few light scuffs but
considering that this LP saw use and airplay in the 60's and 70's, the wear is
light. I have never played the LP. If
the high bidder wishes, I will be happy to clean the LP using Disc Doctor
solution and brushes prior to shipping. The pressing matrix numbers in
the dead wax read as follows.
Side 1: T 1 - 2 5 5 3 - G 2 followed by an etched # and what appears to be a 0
Side 2: T 2 - 2 5 5 3 - F 5
Bid with confidence! I have 100% positive feedback. As you might
expect, it hurts to let this go but I'll be happy that it's going to someone
who will appreciate it and take care of it.
As you are probably aware, "first state" butcher covers are very rare
and much more sought after than the paste-over or peeled covers. Because
of the value and scarcity of this LP, I
have set a reserve price.
I would prefer to ship the LP Priority Mail (packaged very safely inside an LP mailer
with protection and that box placed in a large Priority Mail box) with
insurance and Delivery Confirmation. If you prefer another method of
shipment, I am certainly open to that. Overseas bidders, please contact
me prior to bidding for a shipping estimate. Please know I never
overcharge for shipping but this package will have to be insured and that price
will have to be built in to the shipping cost.
