The Douay-Rheims Bible, also known as the Rheims-Douai Bible or Douai Bible and abbreviated as D-R, is a translation of the Bible from the Latin Vulgate into English.

The New Testament was published in one volume with extensive commentary and notes in 1582. The Old Testament followed in 1609–10 in two volumes, also extensively annotated. The notes took up the bulk of the volumes and had a strong polemical and patristic character. They also offered insights on issues of translation, and on the Hebrew and Greek source texts of the Vulgate. The purpose of the version, both the text and notes, was to uphold Catholic tradition in the face of the Protestant Reformation which was heavily influencing England. As such it was an impressive effort by English Catholics to support the Counter-Reformation. Much of the text of the 1582/1610 bible, however, employed a densely latinate vocabulary, to the extent of being in places unreadable; and consequently this translation was replaced in 1752 by a version undertaken by bishop Richard Challoner. Although retaining the title Douay-Rheims Bible, the Challoner revision was in fact a new version, taking as its base text the King James Bible rigorously checked and extensively adjusted for consistency with the Clementine edition of the Vulgate.

• We generally ship via USPS.  However, we reserve the right to ship with an alternative carrier at our discretion.

• U.S. Sales: Shipping is free (no matter how many you buy)
• International Sales: For international buyers, we can combine ALL CD and DVD purchases.  Shipping & Handling will be $5.00 for the first item, and $2.00 each for additional items. 

 Will you ship to where I live?

• Simple answer... YES!  If you live outside of the U.S., delivery may take longer, but we will be happy to ship to you!

Why was my shipping rate higher than the stamps on the item?

• In the interest of offering quick shipping to our customers we have decided on a flat fee for shipping all of our items anywhere in the world.  This means if you are across the globe or across the street, the shipping will be that same for that item.  We realize that this may result in the shipping rate to be higher than the actual shipping price, but if we had to figure shipping for EVERY item we sell, our handling fees would be that much higher for everybody and would have to be reflected in the price.  The posted shipping rate also covers the handing as well as the packing materials.  We strive to keep this fee as low as possible and appreciate your understanding.
