in good jacket with Mylar sleeve. Translated from the French. An ancient civilization comes to
life after two thousand years as the lost key to its language is found. With two
photo sections and numerous in-text drawings. Most think Italian peninsula was
first occupied by Rome. Not so. A rich civilization thrived there long before.
Long overshadowed by their Roman successors, the
Etruscans and their lives have only recently began to be understood as their
history is uncovered.
Dr. Mayani, of the University of Paris, "has given thirty years of his life
to etymological research, the last five of which were devoted entirely to the
Etruscan." According to Mayani, Etruscan has features linking it with the
inscriptions on the island of Lemnos in the Aegean, and with Lydia, and, more
controversially, with Lycia, Phoenicia, and Ancient Egypt. In many instances the
words involved have a religious significance. No inscription or markings. Bright
clean pages. Dust jacket has very minor wear, book is in excellent condition. 6½" x 9½" tall, index and bibliography, 474 pages.
