In 1917 Andry A. Potter, Professor of Steam and Gas Engineering at Kansas State Agricultural College, published FARM MOTORS. Life on the farm was becoming ever more mechanized. Vast tracts of land were being cultivated in the West using massive machines where labor was scarce. I have reprinted the chapter of the book called Traction Engines, resetting the text in a clear and easy-to-read font. I have included all of the original illustrations plus a few more from other parts of the book.
When this book was published the gas traction engine was selling in ever increasing numbers. Available in smaller sizes, and more affordable to own and operate than steam traction engines, the gasoline and kerosene powered "tractors" were cutting edge technology. This is one of the earliest books to closely examine these new prime movers.
What sets this book apart from others is the quality of the illustrations. All of the images shown here are in this text. Altogether there are 60 pages of text with over 70 fine illustrations. I am offering this hard-to-find information for the modest price of $5.95 plus $2.20 for first class mail delivery in the US.
