Oh... do I have wonderful friends who bring me wonderful items to sell!!! This is from another friend (not the third floor) and this is a GEM!!!!
The Marvelous Land of Oz book by L. Frank Baum. 1904, Chicago, The Reilly & Britton Co. John R. Neill, illustrator
This copy is hardback, red cloth, black, green & silver, black title outlined in silver. 287 pages, well illustrated with many black & white illustrations and full plate color illustrations. 7" x 9 1/4" overall book size.
This is a first edition. The title page is 1904, The copyright page July 1904 and then the author's note page is dated Chicago, June 1904.
As for condition it is absolutely wonderful and close to excellent. Here are the issues: The outer cover is clean but does have bumping and wear, but less than you would expect for a 100+ year book. First inside page has a very small tear at the top approx 1/2", on the second inside page is an inscription in pencil with a name from and aunt dated summer 1904 (names will not be made public).
Pg. 6-7-8-9 has some light smudges on bottom of pages (not bad), some other light smudges on other pages again on bottom on addtional pages, again not bad. Little to no foxing, pages crisp, spine is intact, but a few of the bound sections are loose, but still intact. Next to page 284 is an illustration of the Scarecrow as Royal Treasure and at the bottom of the page written in pencil is $170000000000.
This is a very good copy and very much collector condition. Please email me with questions. Ohio residents to pay sales tax unless tax exempt number is provided.
This book ranges in values up to the thousands.......my friend has asked for a reserve and it is very modest, not in the thousands......... thank you for looking..........
