First edition of the first book printed in California on Hawaii. This book came directly from the library of an important American industrial family. Full provenance is available for the new owner. Reverand Timothy Dwight Hunt [1821-1895] was a missionary in Hawaii. With the advent of the Gold Rush in 1948, Reverend Hunt came to California and became the Chaplain of The First Congregational Church in San Francisco. During 1852 and 1853 he delivered a series of popular lectures on the Islands. Apparently only 500 copies of this book were issued. It is understood that most copies were supplied to libraries.
