The Sporting News Feb 15 1956 Obituary CONNIE MACK 4pgs

ITEM DESCRIPTION:
Scan(s) of this issue are shown below this description. Detailed grading after the description as well.

A few people have each time I've offered these, so for the sake of total clarity this is not a reprint but a totally original vintage issue of The Sporting News issued at the date in the title

Oversized, appx. 11-3/4" X 16-1/2" classic The Sporting News issue printed on newsprint. The image below is a cropped out portion of the front cover (too large to fit the whole thing on my scanner!) and there may also be other images below from inside this issue. Classic Sporting News from when it was "The Baseball Paper of the World"!

There is just too much packed into each issue of The Sporting News to list it all, but I have paged through this entire issue and here are some of the highlights:

  • Cover cartoon is "The Last Word" by O'Mealia
  • Headline on front cover is "Gabe Takes Shot at Gun-Jumping Drills - 'Early Whistle Makes Camp Too Lengthy'" featuring Gabe Paul
  • Also beginning on the cover is "'Sweeping Changes' - Action Begun on Tightening Shrine Vote" about the Hall of Fame
  • Feature on Pete Reiser as he starts over as a manager in the low minors, with photos
  • "Dodgers Should Repeat as N.L. Champions, But ... 'It Won't Be Any Cake Walk,' Says Alston" with large photo of Walter Alston in street clothes
  • "Pitchers to Have Own MVP Awards in Future - Trophy Set Up as Memorial to Cy Young"
  • "Entire Game Mourns Passing of Mack" - The death of Connie Mack at age 93 is covered in detail over four full pages beginning with large cartoon by Lou Darvas, photos from throughout Mack's career, his career statistics as both player and manager, and several articles
  • Whitey Lockman
  • Mickey McDermott
  • Capsule previews and rosters for the Washington Senators and the Philadelphia Phillies
  • "Sonic Boom Heard Over Boston as Ted's Pay Hits Stratosphere - Guesses Range to $110,000 as Splinter Flies to Hub to Sign 14th Bosox Pact" with small headshot photo of Ted Williams
  • Plus, believe it or not, much more! Including several articles covering many other players and teams, usually at least something from each team; winter ball coverage, some Spring Previews of early arrivals, etc.
  • 40 pages total.

    GRADING - CONDITION:
I paged through the entire issue and can guarantee that it is complete with no cut-outs. Grades EX+ or 6/10 of better depending how far you mark it down for age toning -- that's really all that's wrong here, even age toning throughout as shown in the scans below.

  • All items that I offer for sale are vintage and date to whichever date is mentioned in the title and/or listing.

  • PAYMENT:
Payment accepted from the U.S. and around the world through PayPal. Prompt payment expected within a week at most, immediate payment most appreciated. If you require longer than a week feel free to write, I'm pretty loose as long as there's communication.
