The Twelve Muqam CD Box Set
She
stood upon the bluff, the
afternoon sun shining golden through the
fabric of her headwrap, her silken robes fluttering in the gentle
breeze. Her voice travelled far across the plain, leaping from branch
to pebble, crashing through dry riverbeds and echoing against the empty
canyons, searching...
It found him, his head bowed, in a slow trot, tired after a day's
fruitless hunt. Before he began to realize it, he was humming,
harmonizing with her faint melody. Without even a warning to his
attendants, he dug his heels into his fatigued mount, "Ride my friend,
we must find the source of that song!" The horse obeyed eagerly,
leaping over stone and bush to find the spring of his master's new
strength.
He arrived in a cloud of dust and was instantly taken by her beauty.
She saw that it was he for whom
she was searching. Without a word, she strung her satar over her
shoulder, and rode off
with him to his palace.

In
an unprecedented move, The
Camel's Back is offering the rare and famous Twelve
Muqams for your viewing pleasure. The Chinese Government has
realized that the sacred music of the Uyghur people is a national
treasure that should be saved for generations to come and shared the
world over. As a result, they have financed the recording of the
Twelve Muqams to CD and VCD, and we are offering them for sale on the
international market. The recording was done by the official TV and radio station in Urumuqi and is professional and enthralling. Note: This is now out of print. Once these few are sold, there will be no more in the forseeable future.
For just $260USD including
shipping, you can receive the entire set of 24 CDs, almost 24 hours of music, to add to your Central Asian Collection. The set consists of 24 high-quality CDs, 2 CDs hold
one complete Muqam
performance by the Uyghur orchestra. They each have a running time of
approximately 1 hour.
You can listen to an example of Muqam music from The Red Rose, a collection of some of the best songs from the 12 Muqam.
Experience your instrument the way it is meant to be played, listen to
the rhythms and feel the power of the Muqam. This tradition has been
around for centuries, and continues to this day. Many of the Muqam are surrounded by
legend, such as the tale of Amannisa Khan, who
eventually composed a famous muqam as the queen. They tell tales
of woe-begotten lovers, stories of revenge and power, and most
importantly, they serve as important conduits for the passing of
religious tenets and moral lessons. Each Muqam consists of various
different tunes and melodies, including dance numbers, sung poetry, and
instrumental sonatas. The Muqam as a music form is something that will
not be forgotten, and will undoubtedly leave you with a very favorable
impression of Kashgar.
This is the list of the Muqams in the set:
Rak,
Chabbayat, Sigah, Chahargah, Panjigah, Uzhal, Ajam, Uxxak, Bayat, Nawa,
Muxavirak, Iraq
