A reserve price is the minimum price the seller will accept. This price is hidden from bidders. To win, a bidder must have the highest bid and have met or exceeded the reserve price.
This roman a clef presents a former Miramax publicist's view of life as a film industry peon. Karen Jacobs finds her job as a CNN researcher unbearably tedious, so she trades up (apparently) for a glittering but exhaustingly insane position at Glorious Pictures, run by the title's Tony and Phil Waxman (the stand-ins for the founders of Miramax, Harvey and Bob Weinstein). Other not-very-well-disguised celebrities who drift through the tale include Harvey Keitel, Robert De Niro, and Prince.
