Condition: Very good condition. DJ is scuffed, but intact. Upper corner of book is bumped. Dedication in ink on inside flyleaf. Inside text has no missing/torn pages; no writing, no highlighting, no stains.

Book Description

Olegas Truchanas Lithuanian-born Tasmanian, lost his life in the Gordon River Gorge, in the heart of Tasmania's South-West wilderness on January 6, 1972.

"With his death", it was said, "those who love the wild beauty of Western Tasmania lost their foremost champion."

For more than 20 years he had waged an unceasing campaign against ignorance, apathy, and misunderstanding of the gradual alienation of what now remains one of the world's last great primeval regions.

His epic, lone journeys had taken him to remote valleys and mountain ranges, to discover lakes, tarns and forests where, in many cases, no man had been before.

He was a bushman extraordinary, endowed with physical, mental and spiritual powers one finds only in men of the calibre of Scott or Hillary. Through these great qualities he became a councillor of the Australian Conservation Foundation.

This gifted man was also a master-photographer. This book, nearly three years in the making, has gathered together his finest works, reproduced as a lasting memorial to his name and as a source of continuing pleasure to others. (From the dust jacket)
