How can something so small make such a loud piercing sound ?
It's the ingenious construction and micro-electronics.
Let's look inside...



No wires or speakers or anything like that. Just a tiny circuit board and some resistors (I think).

I don't know much about electronics, but I'm amazed that the unit is so loud and compact that there isn't even room for a battery compartment!

The 2 AAA batteries (NOT INCLUDED) just sit loosely on the right hand side, until you screw the unit together and the 2 prongs on the left force the batteries down and form a makeshift battery compartment.

Pretty heady stuff for a low-level tinkerer like myself.
But you won't think about its unique design while it's saving your life.



Three things to note:
1] The big BLUE button is a momentary switch. It blasts a shrill 125 decibels in short bursts - that's the human threshhold for ear-splitting pain.

But you can also hold down the BLUE button for a continuous alarm of 112 - 115 dB, which is a lot louder than most car alarms - and it fits in the palm of your hand!



2] When you receive in the nice package shown below, the ripcord is not attached. You attach it to the unit by squeezing the prongs and forcing it down. Once it clicks in, it cannot be removed from the unit. You push it all the way in to re-set.
When you yank on it, or use as a motion alarm, the ripcord pulls out about half an inch to activate the amazingly loud sound




3] MOST IMPORTANTLY - THIS IS NOT A TOY !!! Serious damage to your hearing can result from misuse. DO NOT LEAVE unattended in the presence of children - or childish adults.
