We use genuine inductor coils in the classic Theremin design. The operating principal is essentially the same between the two but Digital Theremins have unusual overtones that sound like someone is singing along off key.
All other similar and lower cost Theremins use harsh sounding Digital 'chip' designs.

Digital and analog Theremins have differing waveforms. Low tone generation is very important to the quality of a Theremin design. Not only can you see the difference but you can also hear it! Analog means it combines two generated radio frequencies to produce the audio signal as opposed to digital pulses mixed inside a chip to produce the audio signal. They both function essentially the same but the digital design starts with square waveforms to mix and the analog Theremin begins with a much more sinusoidal wave to mix.
Some digital Theremins are advertised as Analog! Analog Theremins will have oscillator coils. Digital and Optical 'Theremins' that show a nice looking wave form are simply audio oscillators. It is the combination of two radio frequency signals that create a complex and musically rich wave that will not sound harsh or 'sterile'.

Theremaniacs Theremin kits are tuned and working right out of the shipping box! Included with this completed circuit board is an antenna, battery holder, tuning tool, knob for the sensitivity control, pre-wired 1/4 inch jack, a short information sheet and even a quality alkaline battery! To complete your Theremaniacs Theremin Kit, simply mount the circuit board and controls into the non-metalic enclosure of your choice!
The theremin will remain silent until your hand is about 3 feet away where it will emit a low tone that increases as your hand moves near the antenna. All one must do to finish this instrument is find a non-metalic enclosure, drill holes in it, and mount the items provided. Your theremin could be mounted in a guitar, baby doll, glass human head or wherever your imagination dictates!

Most people associate the other-worldly sound of a theremin with vintage science fiction / horror movies, or bands such as Man or Astro Man that utilized the instrument in their musical mix. WHY A SINGLE ANTENNA THEREMIN?This keeps the cost down while allowing us to provide YOU with the best sounding Theremin for the money. If you feel you need to adjust the output volume it is simple to add a volume pedal or a fader control. Theremanaics Theremins do NOT utilize a poor sounding Integrated Circuit design! Cheaper theremins will use one or two 'chips' in a circuit that has harsh overtones, and lacks a clean sine wave signal. THEREMANIACS GENUINE THEREMINS use Inductor coils for oscillation and tone generation - NOT 'chips'. Many cheap volume control circuits have way too much circuit interaction that causes poor sound. Some low quality designs include a volume control antenna mounted 6 INCHES away from the pitch antenna - yet they claim 2 or 3 feet of playing range. With these designs you will inadvertently change the pitch when you vary the volume. Good two antenna theremins have their pitch and volume antennas mounted least 2 feet apart - AND they'll cost about $300 and up!
