Published by Henry Holt & Co. (London) in 1874. First US edition, first printing. 

Original cream cloth covered boards with black titles and decoration. Pages (vii) 402 plus 2 pages of publisher's ads to front and rear.

Boards are in very good condition. Slight softening and a few tiny chips to spine tips. Corners bumped and rubbed with tiny chip to one corner (see photos). Slight fading to spine. Light soiling and a few small marks. Slight spine lean.

Internally the pages are generally clean and in very good condition. A paperclip mark to top corner of pages121-123 (see last photo). Otherwise just a the odd small mark to the very occasional page.

A nice copy of the first US edition of Hardy's first book.

All books under £200 will be sent by first class recorded delivery within 48 hours of receipt of payment.

Books at £200 and over will be sent within 48 hours by special delivery with insurance to the full value of the book. There will not be any additional charge for this service, above the stated postage costs.

All books under £200 will be sent by Royal Mail airmail within 48 hours of receipt of payment.

Books at £200 and over will be sent within 48 hours by Royal Mail 'Airsure'  (or 'International Signed For' where 'Airsure' is not available) with insurance to the full value of the book. Once the book has been mailed I will Email you notification together with a reference number which will enable you to track or trace your delivery online. There will not be any additional charge for this service above the stated shipping costs.

Combined postage

I will combine postage/shipping costs. Where more than one item is purchased please request an invoice when you have finished buying. I will send an amended invoice reflecting the reduced postage/shipping costs.
