| Tiger Cowrie - set of TWO great shells - nice |
TIGER COWRIE, or cyprae tigris, are found in the Indo-Pacific oceans, under coral rocks. These two shells have been cleaned to a beautiful coloring and shine (all natural, of course, as in all my shells). They measure about 3 inches long.
Cowries are found in warm waters, living under rocks and feeding on algae. Because of their mantle which extends to search for food, they look like a sponge and are one of the hardest shells to find. Cowries are beautiful shells, hard and sturdy, and have been used for many purposes. Some of these include money, art, jewelry, religious symbols, and on fishing nets as protection against the evil eye.
I have several of these for auction, I have scanned a very representative specimen here. There may be a few tiny natural chips, but in general the condition of my shells is extremely high quality: clean, presentation quality, handpicked by me. Yours will be very similar (but not exactly) as the one pictured here. Another auction from Primitive Originals Shells.
