Tiny Antique Gold & Turquoise Mechanical Pencil

English * Circa 1870

This fancy little gold plated pencil has a hexagonal barrel with all over hand engraving. The ring on the barrel that slides forward to push the nozzle out is set with 6 tiny cabochon turquoises. The nozzle slides out smoothly and is in perfect working condition (twists out the lead). The finial at the top is set around with 6 more turquoises and the top has a white stone seal. The top unscrews and a spare lead is stored below.

The case is in excellent condition with no dents, repairs or other damage and no missing stones. It measures 1 1/2" long closed and just over 2" long extended. It was bought in England. Similar pencils are shown on p. 66 of Deborah Crosby's book Victorian Pencils.
