| Tommy Peltier Jazz Corps Live at Lighthouse 1963-67 CD |
 | | MINT APPEARS UNPLAYED (NOT SEALED).
Tommy Peltier's Jazz Corps lasted only from 1962 to 1967, and is probably best known for a less than stellar recording featuring Roland Kirk. Since then, the group has been a smoky memory, at least until this stunning retrospection of their work was released by Bob Rusch's adventurous Cadence Jazz Records. Maintaining a consistent lineup of Peltier on cornet, Freddy Rodriguez on alto and tenor saxophones, Lynn Blessing on vibes, Bill Plummer on bass, and Maurice Miller on drums, this recording collects samples of the best of the group's playing from concerts at The Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach, CA, where the group played regularly. The music burns with emotion, the influence of Ornette Coleman a pleasant surprise. Peltier has to be one of the most underrated cornetists in jazz history, his delightfully pinched and brittle attack, solid phrasing, and wonderful compositions a constant pleasure. ~ Steve Loewy, All Music Guide
