A superbly executed large format antique chromolithograph entitled,
U.S. NAVY - SINKING OF THE ALABAMA - JUNE 11TH 1864
The Alabama and Kearsarge were warships of the Confederate States Navy and United States Navy respectively, which fought off the port of Cherbourg, France, 1864, during the American Civil War. The Kearsarge was victorious, sinking the Alabama, bringing to an end its destruction of Union ships.
From " The United States Army And Navy " by Lieutenant - Colonel A.Wagner and Commander J.D.Kelley which details the history of these two forces from revolution to the end of the Spanish - American war.
This an original chromolithograph print published in 1899 by The Werner Company and not to be confused with later issues or reprints.
A small tear lower margin (repaired verso) otherwise fine condition with bright, rich colouring.
Measuring approx. 13" x 9" (330mm x 230mm) image area only with titled margins beyond , perfect for framing.
