RARE and UNUSUAL ANTIQUE IVORY FIELD BALUCH RUG, NE Persian tribal, Khurasan Province, last 3rd of the 19th century, and in very good overall condition.The exact size, including the original kilim endings, is: 3'-1' x 5'-3" (94 x 160 cm). Ivory field antique Baluch weavings are quite rare. I am not aware of any similar published example like this offering. The dyes are all 100% natural and derived from plant sources. The condition is quite good and the rug is structurally sound. There is lower pile to the center with some side cord over-castings needing attention (see close up photos). Both kilim endings need to be sewn back secure to prevent future loss. There is a worn area in the center of the bottom kilim (see close up photo). This lovely old rug is quite soft and supple in the hand. It is clean and collection ready. Will make a lovely statement as a wall hanging. Structurally, the textile has asymmetrical knots open to the left on natural ivory wool warps and wefts composed of dark brown natural camel hair. Truly tribal.
