UNUSUAL ANTIQUE PERSIAN AFSHAR SADDLEBAG. A++ CONDITION

EXCELLENT & COMPLETE ANTIQUE AFSHAR SUMAK SADDLEBAG HALF, SE Persian tribal, south of Kerman, late 19th to early 20th century, and in top collector condition. The exact size is: 2'-4" x 2'-6" (71 x 76 cm). A fine old bag with an unusual designed executed in the sumak technique with 100% natural, plant-derived, dyed wool. Comes in near-mint condition with the original backing, loops and closure devices at the top, and braided, barber-pole, over-castings on the sides. The back exhibits a couple of punctures from past use as a camp and transport bag. Lovely design consisting of five rows of "birds-on-a-wire" motifs on a ivory cotton field all within a colorful, diagonally-striped, border surround. A thick and heavy bag in the hand that was created for use as a camp and migration transport vessel in a rugged pastoral nomadic environment. The weaving is clean and collection ready. Being in complete condition, this bag can easily be stuffed and used as a decorative throw pillow for the home or office.
