1892 Silver World's Columbian Exposition
Commemorative Half Dollar

This is a very nice 1892 Columbian Exposition commemorative silver half dollar. Both rims are complete with clear dentils; both surfaces appear to be original with some uneven toning. On the obverse, the date, lettering, and design details are all sharp with very light wear evident on the cheek and neck. On the reverse, all lettering and design details are sharp, including the vertical lines on the third sail. I believe this coin to be in About Uncirculated AU50 condition. A little history: The World's Columbian Exposition half dollar was the first United States commemorative coin. This coin was minted in 1892 and 1893 and were sold for $1 each at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. A great many remained unsold and a substantial quanitity was later released for circulation at face value.
