2001* $5.00 Fed Reserve *STAR* Notes

We have here a pair of $5 FRN  **STAR**  notes.  These  $5.00 Federal Reserve Star Notes of 2001* are in Crisp GEM Uncirculated condition, a real addition to any small note collection.  Check out the photos.  You can enlarge the photos.  Each was signed by Secretary of the Treasury Paul Oneil who resigned after barely one year in office making these even rarer as no more will bear his signature.  The Treasurer is Rosario Marin.  Oneill was replaced by John Snow who is also gone, this note had a very short print life having already replaced by the 2003 and 2003A series which was then superceded by the 2006 series.  In addition to that, this is the rare San Francisco STAR note.  Star notes are only used to replace defective notes pulled in the printing process as replacements.  They are much harder to find than the regular notes from the series.  These may be the rarest of all $5.00 star notes issued in the last 20 years!  The San Francisco Fed Bank is one of only 2 to issue any star notes in the 2001 Series!!!  If you have this one, you have half of all those printed!!!

These notes were printed in Fort Worth, were the only stars issued for the series of 2001 and they are sequential in serial number.  No 2001 notes were printed in Washington, DC.

Book value for each note is $35 in CU, but retailers and Shop at Home TV often charge much more than book value just because they are so hard to find.  The note is free of holes, writing, ink, stains etc.   It is a Choice Uncirculated perfect specimen of US Currency.  The note has the transitional design that predates the current colorized series.   Only 5 million Star notes were printed for the Federal Reserve Banks, and only the San Franciso and Dallas Federal Reserve Bank had the stars to issue.  This is a real find.  This pair will go together at auction.  This auction is starting at 1 cent and is for the pair pictured.
