UZBEK HAND EMBROIDERED SMALL VELOUR CHAPAN ROBE FOR CHILD

Since ancient times one of the most important articles of Uzbek Traditional National clothes was a “Chapan” Robe. The “Chapan” has a very special value in tradition and culture of Uzbek people, and in daily life of people as well. It was and still is very popular among Uzbek folk of any age. All Uzbek people wear "Chapans" on celebrations and grand occasions (birthdays, weddings). There is a great variety of fabrics, patterns and designs of Uzbek “Chapans”. However each article is a unique sample of Uzbek Traditional Clothes.

This small item for a child is Uzbek Velour hand embroidered in silk “Chapan” robe. Such designs of Velour “Chapans” used to be very rare and were considered to be the appropriate outwear for the upper classes. The needle workers applied all their skills and vivid imagination while making this item. The silk patterns consist of rich floral motifs in beautiful colours. The dress is lined with a pure cotton cloth of red colour inside. The fabric used here is very soft and pleasant to the touch. Such kind of “Chapans” used to be sewn for boys and served as ceremonial clothes on family events, usually for circumcision ritual.

Size: from top to bottom 20” (inch)/50.5” (cm), both sleeve's - 36" (inch)/91” (cm), chest size 28" (inch)/71” (cm).

Stitch: chain and couching.
Condition: excellent.
